Office Holiday Party Guide: Prep & Clean-Up Tips
The holiday season is fast approaching. This means office holiday party time, hosting, and attending. If you are the business hosting the party, there are some steps you can take to make your holiday party prep and clean-up go smoothly.
If you are using your office as the venue, and are only scheduling a cleaning crew for the after-party clean up, then you & your employees will likely be the ones prepping the office for the big event.
Don’t worry! You can rest assured that the guests will not be noticing every detail of cleanliness. Your office will likely be a disaster after the party, so you do not need to pull out the cleaning toothbrush for your guests.
You will need to have the following for your pre-party cleaning crew, aka employees:
- White Distilled Vinegar in a Spray Bottle
- Plenty of Washable Rags
- A Floor Cleaning Mop
- Toilet Brushes
- Vacuum Cleaner
The white distilled vinegar works for a multitude of reasons and things. The reason we like it is that it cleans well and gets rid of bad smells without overwhelming the office and making it smell like industrial cleaning solvent. It also reduces the mix of perfumes and colognes and helps reduce the risk of allergic reaction for guests with allergies.
Instruct your staff to use the spray bottle filled with vinegar to clean countertops, sinks, toilet seats, glass and mirrors, and any non-wood work surfaces in need of cleaning. They can spray the inside of the toilet bowl before scrubbing, as well. Vinegar neutralizes the odors, cleans the bowl, and does not make it smell like you have just dipped your office spaces in chemical cleaners. (Bonus Tip: This is an ideal time to get attractive plungers in holders for the bathrooms your office party guests will be using.)
Your office floors will take a beating, so do not go crazy trying to make them look perfect. (Bonus Tip: We recommend entryway rugs for all entrances that will be used during gatherings. This helps reduce the havoc on floors by quite a bit. Office floors already see enough traffic.)
- To clean non-wood floors, we suggest 1/3 vinegar to 2/3 water. They will not get sticky with this mixture.
- For treated or finished wood floors, use plain warm water.
- For untreated or unfinished wood floors, always use whatever the manufacturer or installer has recommended.
If you are not hiring a serving crew, make stations around the office for used glasses, plates, utensils, and napkins. You can use trays that can be easily removed to the office kitchen. Try to use cloth napkins if possible. They can be rented for a very good price by the hundreds. This way you do not have to have trash cans or dirty napkins all around the office. Use tablecloths on conference tables, counters spaces, and serving areas. They add cheer, but also help keep the serving areas clean.
Coasters will most likely not get used much with people walking around and chatting, so use decorative placemats on surfaces that are not the appropriate shape for tablecloths. They cover more space, can be easily cleaned, and used for next year's festivities.
As for the post office-holiday-party clean up, well give your employees a break, thank them for their hard work preparing for the event, and treat your company to a professional cleaning! Office cleaning is our specialty and we are happy to get your office back on track for business in 2017.
